Background:
Many would-be Red Knights are coming forward with offers of financial support, but it's still early days and the hope and expectation is that more will continue to do so over the coming days and weeks.
This MUST email that is going out to its 115,000 members today from our chief executive Duncan Drasdo, will include the following reassurance and call to arms:
MUST has smashed through the 100,000 membership mark!
With over 115,000 supporters now signed up to the free online membership via www.joinmust.org your Supporters Trust is now bigger than the club’s own ‘One United’ membership scheme.
This is an incredible achievement, but it’s only the start. We did this in only a couple of days – just think what we could do in the coming weeks and months. And how fast we can grow is all down to YOU.
Since the news emerged about a possible bid for our club, supporters have understandably been asking questions about the Red Knights. Who are they?
Why are they doing this? How will the club be run if they take over? What role will supporters play in any new ownership model? These questions are perfectly natural.
We wanted to reassure you that no supporter is being asked to make any decisions at this early stage in the process, or to write any blank cheques of support - nor yet to make any financial commitment. Joining the MUST campaign means you want to see a change of ownership and you want to see supporters put at the heart of any new ownership model at our club.
We will only support a proposal which we believe is good for Manchester United Football Club and good for the supporters.
How a bid might be funded, and how supporters will be involved, is all still being discussed – nothing is set in stone. All options remain under consideration.
The larger the supporter participation the greater role we will play in any bid and any new ownership model at United. It’s that simple.
Currently there is a tremendous opportunity for supporters to shape that thinking and our future structure. If you want to be part of that process you first have to join the campaign at www.joinmust.org and then you can have a voice and influence the outcome.
The intention is to provide the option to every United supporter to own a part of their club. Whether we choose to take that option is up to us as individuals but the first stage is building a huge Red Network to allow us to communicate.
If the millions of supporters around the world choose to participate they will hold the majority stake.
